Many educated and »international« Americans lack awareness of how American they actually are. They take so many things for granted that, in less »advanced« parts of the world, like most of g'd 'ld Europe, nearly all of Asia, Africa, and even South America, are far from being settled. The individualist perspective of the world, in Europe, Asia, and so forth is just a philosophy. Over the ocean, it is a fundamental aspect of the way of life.
If you ask yourself what I'm talking about, I'll give you one and just that one question »what about the rights of homosexuals?«. From a American point of view, most of the world must appear as a shithole. This would be partly justified.
