What a disappointment when Silver Charm lost the Belmont – and the Triple Crown – in 1997!
Coming down the stretch, Silver Charm seemed certain to win as he began to pull away. But in the last furlong, Touch Gold came forward to win by three-quarters of a length.
It was a disappointment for Silver Charm, his jockey, his trainer, his owners, and everyone hoping for the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.
But it was no disappointment for Touch Gold!
