Continuity is a key conception in the history of ideas
in many fields. A form of continuity, under one name
or another, is frequently attributed to processes or
developments in mathematics, science, philosophy,
history, and theology.
Maths is no only numbers, one beside the next or one added to another. If it were that you should call it calculating. But that's not, what is the center of maths.
Maths gives us certain instruments to describe the world or even to fortell what will happen. In every inch of our life we will find maths. Most people don't want to look for it, as they always feared maths at school. But there's no reason.
The view that all things are defined by mathematics may be true, but seems a cold and unimaginative way to view the world.
Computer Scientists have a lot of respect for mathematics. In my experience, people who enjoy advanced CS also enjoy solving math problems, particularly proofs. However, Mathematicians have no respect whatsoever for Computer Science.
Mathematics: the language of God transliterated into hieroglyphs by dyslexic chimpanzees. One knows it means something terribly important, but even when one has the key to understanding one is led astray by errors in transcription.
