In both the singular and the plural, a touchingly versatile word: nuts in May (?), nuts to you, nuts-and-bolts, squirreling nuts, and (when alone) doing your nut, nut-ter, a hard nut to crack (especially if it's a Brazil nut in the obligatory Christmas selection).
