Until recently, I had a trusty old pair of gardening shoes 'hush puppies' that gambolled out into the garden with me in all wet and muddy weathers. An unfortunate and confused lady turned up at my door with bare feet last autumn and seemed pleased when offered the shoes to continue her wanderings in. It never occurred to me that I would never see my faithful hush puppies again and oh, how I miss them. I hope they've gone to a good home.....

Shoes connect you to what is real and solid.
Shoes grant stability, control.
Everyone has, at one point or another, pointed a camera down his/her body and taken a picture of shoes. This is known as a foot convention.
Someday I shall publish a coffee-table book: Famous Foot Conventions
Shoes of the famous and shoes of the obscure...shoes make everyone equal.

shoes are both liberating and binding/ because sometimes all i wanna do is walk barefoot, but the thorns and thistles hurt my feet.

At old English weddings, guests threw shoes at the groom. So don't worry too much about getting some rice in your hair.
